Internships
Website Content and Social Media Interns
We are seeking creative and energetic volunteers to assist with updating our website and newsletter, expanding VLP’s social media presence, as well as other engaging assignments.
Qualifications
Ideal candidate will have strong writing and research skills, technology experience, ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience in social media is preferred with a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. Familiarity with law a plus.
Responsibilities
- Updating and developing library, calendar and other content for VLP’s website
- Creating content for social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn accounts)
- Researching blogs/channels to identify opportunities for growth

Administrative/Paralegal Support
Candidates must demonstrate compassion and the ability to work with low-income populations from diverse backgrounds. This important and crucial support will be provided at both of our locations. This is a volunteer position, but we will consider students with Work-Study permissions.
Qualifications:
Candidate should have professional experience and be enrolled in or completed a degree and/or paralegal studies program. Fluency in another language preferred but not required (Spanish, Portuguese, Creole, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin)
Responsibilities
- Develop a basic understanding of the organization and office protocol
- Answer phone calls, greet walk-ins and/or provide information and resources
- Provide support to administrative assistants, and paralegals/legal advocates
- Prepare materials for trainings, meetings, legal clinics and or special projects
Requirements:
The candidate needs to have the ability to work a minimum of 12-16 hours per week. They should be able to work independently and collaboratively. Key qualities include strong communication skills, attention to detail, problem solving, multi-tasking and prioritization. A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is preferred.
Legal Intern
Candidates must demonstrate compassion and the ability to work with low-income populations from diverse backgrounds. Legal interns provide crucial support in all aspects of legal and administrative functions, at both of our locations.
Qualifications:
- Professional experience
- Fluency in another language (Spanish, Portuguese, Creole, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin)
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Enrolled in or completed JD or LLM program
Responsibilities
- Develop a basic understanding of the organization and office protocol
- Form a basic understanding of the substantive area of law in the unit for which you are volunteering
- Attend and provide support at a court based legal clinic
- Attend and provide support at the ERLI call center with day to day activities and functions
- Assist with data entry, scanning, and copying of case information and/or court documents
- Assist with client intake and screening for eligibility and provide basic information and referrals
- Assist clients with drafting documents
- Assist with case preparation (client follow-up, referral memos, research, and more)
- Assist staff attorneys with research projects
- Represent clients in court (students who are 3:03 certified)
- Assist with interview of new client intakes in-person or via other methods of communication
- Assist with updating client and attorney database records
- Assist with drafting communication to clients and attorneys
- Conduct surveys with clients and attorneys to obtain feedback and close cases
- Interpret for clients and attorneys as needed
- Assist with other projects or tasks as needed
Requirements:

- Ability to navigate through the internet, research, and locate information quickly
