Consumer Law Training- Combatting Unlawful Seizure of Wages and Assets and Vacating Default Judgments
Apr 28 12:00 pm 1:30 pm
This training will cover consumer debt cases post-judgment that are in the civil session of the Boston Municipal Court (BMC) and state district courts. These are cases where a creditor has received a judgment against a client and is trying to collect on that judgment through garnishing the low income client’s wages and/or levying the client’s bank account. Most of our clients have income or assets that is exempt from collection. Pro Bono attorneys will learn how to successfully oppose wage garnishments and bank account levies. Some of these cases involve an underlying default judgment that issued because the client never received notice of the alleged underlying debt. Pro Bono attorneys will also learn how to vacate judgments in the civil and small claims sessions of BMC and state district courts.
